IMAGE SORTING ACTIVITY
This is a variation of the activity originally located at
http:// www.nasm.edu:2020 /SIIMAGES/observin.html (Observing
Images of the Solar System), but no longer accessible. (If you
can find the original, please inform us!)
1. From the linked pages, choose three images
to evaluate in detail, and 8-10 images to sort into groups (you
may do all the images if you wish). At this time, do NOT access
any information about the images.
2. List the three images (by number) and describe what you see in
them.(CP participants: turn in these descriptions as part of your
homework.)
3. Using the 8-10 (or more) images you have chosen, sort them
into groups. You may need to try several arrangements before you
find one that satisfies you. There is no right answer, but some
groupings may give clues to some underlying science. Try to find
groupings that tell you something about the worlds or features of
the worlds, or that lead you to questions you might be able to
investigate further.
4. CP participants: turn in your groupings as part of your homework, using the following format for each group:
| Designation of the group (These can be letters or numbers, or something more descriptive name.) |
Members of the group (List images by number.) |
Criteria used to determine the
members of a group (Please describe these so that someone else, given the criteria and the images, could re-create your groups.) |
Comments (If you think your groups show some underlying science, or if you need to justify the placement of an image that's questionable, you may do so here.) |
