If you run NTmail you have used the web interface to configure it. In that interface you get either tips on how to do things which are served from Gordano's tip server or you get these stupid ads if you have turned tips off.

First, if tips are enabled the Gordano tip server is logging information about your server, the information logged is as follows:

00:01:23.828 121661 HIT 63.219.39.36 faq240 NY1111
6.03.0009 0406120444 en-us 108 31 172ms 299 296

Reading from the left hand side of the log it displays in order:

I found this really obnoxious so I disabled the tip server by going to system variable settings and setting "AllowTipServer" to a value of 2, per Gordano's Knowledge base it should be possible to turn this off completely by setting it to a value of 0 but that didn't seem to work for my server.

For more information on the settings see

Once I had set that I started getting ads instead of tips, these ads are things like ""Do you have sales staff that need access to their email wherever they are? Gordano's GLWebMail allows employees to read their email from any PC, even from home! "

Well I found this to be equally obnoxious as I don't pay for software so I can watch ads from the vendor. A little digging around shows that these are actually being pulled from a local file in the NTmail directory called cookies.txt and you can edit them to be whatever you want. So I changed my cookies.txt file to the following entries:

4
Gordano sucks canal water
Gordano is the worst vendor ever
Gordano support is second only to Microsoft support
Find me a better mail server and I'll switch

and presto no more nonsense.

Enjoy.
