This is an email I received with some useful information
I've experience installing a HP JetDirect EX Plus3 External (3
ports) to use
with Windows NT. But this installation does not work correctly,
see the
problem description at the end of the mail.
With the DLC protocol you can use only the first port. To use the
two others
you have to switch to TCPIP. The default TCPIP address of the box
is normally
192.0.0.192. You have to configure the box connecting it with
telnet (you will
receive help). Perhaps this won't work with NT, so you have to
use a UNIX
host.
Or you have to change the address of your NT Server to a address
of the same
net (e. g. 192.0.0.100). Test the success with ping!
Resuming: The - final - addresses should be set as follows:
Windows NT address: a.b.c.d
JetDirect address: a.b.c.e and subnet-mask 255.255.255.x
Now you have to configure the NT Server:
In "System administration?" (I don't know the exact
translation because I'm
working with version in German) choose Network Software and
install TCPIP
Printer Service, reboot afterwards.
System administration: start TCPIP printer service and change the
start
procedure from manually to automatic. Start Printermanager, add
new printer,
define Name and parameters, in subsection choose "print to
others" and give
LPR port, which should be a.b.c.e. In the field "name of
printer" at the print
host you have to say rawn, where n=1,2,3 depending on the
parallel interface.
That's all to do!
