Jetdirect printer tips
1) To free a printer after NT prints using Jetdirect and DLC
PrintManager/Properties/settings/timers
And change to "job based"
2) DLC is not routable, make sure there are no routers between you and the printer
3)There is a registry setting
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Control
\WOW
\LPT_timeout
which defines how many seconds after the LPT port has been used that
Windows NT waits before grabbing the port, closing it, and flushing the
output. This value could be needed for adjusting the timeout when
printing from MS-DOS-based applications .
The default value is 15 seconds.
4)To correct both the Browsing and Connect to problems (Invalid Printer),
change the Registry entry to the correct provider. In the Registry,
use the following path:
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide
problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers
In the Order value, remove the following entry:
Microsoft Windows Network
Then add the following entry:
LanMan Print Services
There may also be an entry for NetWare printer shares; that does not need
to be removed or changed.
